Every experience through life is unique, different in someway from everything else you have been a part of. Not often, however, do you have the experience of a lifetime, an experience that remains ingrained in your mind as a lasting memory. The memory of which doesn't demand photos, journals, or outside reminders. From my recent 'experience of a lifetime' though, there exist 1,136 photos and 79 video clips, all providing the opportunity to share what I will remember in my head forever. I recently returned with my mom, dad, and girlfriend, Jena, from a 4 day safari at Kruger National Wild Reserve in South Africa. The scenes we witnessed of such majestic wild animals within such close proximity were the images of fantasy. It was a hard feat to grasp the reality of what we watched. Thoughts of Walt Disney's Lion king were impossible to suppress when surrounded by animals that for most people only exist on screens and pages.
In one day, we captured (in photos) the Big 5. We learned from our safari guide and expert that this was no small triumph, a prize not enjoyed by most. The Big 5 consist of the elephant, the rhino, the African buffalo, the lion, and the leopard, and were legendarily the most difficult beasts to hunt on foot. Among others, we saw giraffes, zebras, hippos, baboons, hyenas, vervet monkeys, impala, kudu, waterbucks, wildebeast, crocodiles, eagles, hawks, vultures, and, my personal favorite, warthogs.
To get a better idea of our trip, take a look at this video I assembled.
